From Mountain to Market: A Bus Route
to Economic Justice

The SHC Connect Bus is a transformative mobility initiative designed to bridge the economic and social divide faced by remote communities in Carmen and the greater Cebu region. In the absence of reliable public transportation, residents—especially farmers and artisans—are forced to rely on expensive, unsafe motorbike rides to reach markets, schools, or health services. As a result, they often sell their goods to exploitative middlemen at drastically reduced prices. Connect Bus is a community supporting project model that could be replicated across Cebu and the mountain to coast regions of the Philippines.

Connect Bus offers a dignified alternative. By refurbishing donated buses and trucks, mapping strategic routes, and offering affordable fares, this program will run multiple times daily to connect mountainous barangays to town centers. The service will support fair trade, safe mobility, and greater access to education, employment, and public resources. Additionally, we will be able to provide labor opportunities for drivers, mechanics, and route operators.

Each ride is more than a journey—it’s a step toward empowerment. Bus sponsorships not only support local mobility but also support OATH scholarships and SHC business initiatives, creating a wide ranging impact on the Carmen community. Sponsors will have the opportunity to advertise on the buses, making each vehicle a visible symbol of community partnership and sustainable development.

From Carmen to Liboron, this journey is the perfect example of how the Connect Bus can bridge communities and bring opportunity within reach.
